SC extends Jayalalithaa's bail by four more months

New Delhi, Dec 18 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday extended bail of Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa by four more months in the disproportionate assets case. Jayalalithaa, who has appealed against her conviction in a corruption case, will remain on bail till April. The court also asked chief justice of Karnataka High Court to constitute a special bench to expeditiously decide Jayalalithaa's appeal within 3 months. The SC also ordered that the case be heard on a day-to-day basis. The matter came up before the Supreme Court on Thursday, counsel for Jayalalithaa, KTS Tulsi informed the Chief Justice HL Dattu, that in compliance with the earlier order of the apex court, Jayalalithaa had already submitted all the appeal papers before the Karnataka High Court. New Delhi, Nov 17 (ANI): The Congress party on Monday commenced a two day long international conference to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru amid much fanfare. While speaking at the event, party President Sonia Gandhi said that Nehru was a leader who gave all his life working for the nation and for the unity and prosperity of the nation. Gandhi said that Nehru always believed that secularism was the main crux of Indian Constitution and that he was always ready to fight against power that would pick up caste based issues in the nation. She also said that the former PM believed that secularism was not just an idea but a necessity for a diverse nation like India. The congress president also acknowledged Nehru's work in putting the path of modernization, industrialization and social reforms. The Congress party has barred the NDA leaders from the event and the invitation was sent to all non-BJP parties. TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa and JD (U) leader Nitish Kumar, RJD led by Lalu Prasad Yadav, RLD, JD(S) and leaders of the Samajwadi Party have been invited to the conference. Chennai, Nov 05 (ANI): Protesters, on Wednesday (November 05), took to streets in Chennai city of Tamil Nadu against death penalty given to Indian fishermen in Sri Lanka. Five Indian fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in 2011 on charges of smuggling drugs and on October 30, the Colombo High Court held the five fishermen guilty of drug trafficking. The arrest of the Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan navy has been a major topic of debate between the two nations. Jayalalithaa lands in Chennai amid massive cheers

Chennai, Oct 18 (ANI): Celebrations began in Chennai on Saturday evening as former Tamil Nadu chief minister and AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa arrived here after spending 22 days in Bangalore Central Jail following her conviction in the disproportionate assets case. Scores of AIADMK workers and supporters had gathered outside the Chennai Airport to have a glimpse of their favourite leader, who arrived here from Bangalore in a chartered plane. Jayalalithaa, who was driven to her residence amidst tight security arrangements, waved towards the supporters. Many of Jayalalithaa's supporters broke out in impromptu celebrations and cheered as her convoy passed them.
