Uttar Pradesh/ Manipur, Aug 24 (ANI): Flood fury has wrecked havoc in Uttar Pradesh and has rendered several homeless. The houses located on the banks on river Ganga are submerged due to the rise in its water level in Kanpur city. In Faizabad district also, floods have disrupted normal life of people and left many without any shelter. A Village Revenue Officer, Ramnihal Prajapati, said the government is helping people by providing them with essential commodities for their livelihood. Oommen Chandy ready to compensate on revenue loss to Kerala due to liquor ban

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 23 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said ban on liquor policy in the state can prove to be a loss to the government but he is willing to overcome it. The Congress-led government in Kerala announced on Thursday that it would make Kerala alcohol-free in the next 10 years. The proposal was taken at a two-hour meeting at the chief minister’s residence. Chandy said the new policy will be applicable for the five-star hotels serving liquor from the next fiscal. Chandy added the policy will be submitted to the Kerala High Court on August 26. Chandy said the ban could cause three-fold problems to the state. The state Finance Minister KM Mani said the loss of revenue to the state due to the ban calculated for the upcoming fiscal is 1,811 crore rupees. Aug 23, 2014

Uttar Pradesh gears up to prevent epidemic as flood situation remains grim

Bahraich/ Azamgarh, Aug 22 (ANI): The flood waters in Uttar Pradesh showed no sign of abatement causing fear of a possible epidemic once the water recede. The flood situation that inundated nearly 1,500 villages in the state, hasn’t improved and amidst all these there are fears of epidemics that might be caused once the water recede. Thousands were marooned in villages across nine districts of Uttar Pradesh, where the release of water from overflowing dams in neighbouring Nepal has added to the impact of the downpours. State revenue official of Bahraich, U S Upadhyay, said the administration was ready to take up the challenge, post floods. Stressing that the government is doing everything needful the state government’s irrigation minister Shivpal Yadav said his government won’t allow any hardship to be caused to people in the affected areas.
