Retired colonel Tim Collins claims no decency in Afghan war crime investigation

Former Colonel Tim Collins said there is no decency in the independent policing unit set up to investigate allegations of war crimes against British soldiers in Afghanistan. Col. Collins said the investigation, which the Ministry of Defence said had so far received almost 600 complaints relating to 150 indivduals, was a waste of time and money. He also said soldiers need to be afforded the protections of civilian workers - such as a trade union - if they are going to be subject to civilian-level scrutiny whilst in a theatre of war. Afghanistan: Pamlarena siege ends in Kabul after suicide bombers kill 24

Three Taliban gunmen and one civilian have been killed Kabul in a 12 hour police siege marking the end of a day of carnage in which 24 more people were killed and more than 90 wounded in twin suicide attacks outside the Afghan Ministry of Defence. Hostage video pleads with Afghan government not to execute prisoners

Caitlin Coleman and Joshua Boyle were kidnapped whilst on a hiking trip in Afghanistan in 2012. This is the first video released of them - Coleman is said to have now given birth twice in captivity. A Taliban source says the release of a video showing a US and a Canadian citizen held hostage by the Taliban is designed to pressure the Afghan government not to impose the death sentence on the son of a feared militant leader. 12 people killed as militants attack American University of Afghanistan in Kabul

The attack on 24 August started with a car bomb that was then followed by gunfire as militants stormed the walled American University shooting foreign students and teachers.
