India, Maldives agree to boost cooperation in maritime security, vow to foster relations

New Delhi, Jan 2 (ANI): India and Maldives on Thursday agreed on a roadmap to boost cooperation in maritime security along the Indian Ocean, following a delegation-level meet between visiting President, Yameen Abdul Gayoom and Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, in New Delhi. President Gayoom is on a four-day trip to India, which ends on January 04. Addressing mediapersons, Gayoom said that the countries in the Indian Ocean region must resolve issues concerning the maritime security. Gayoom said that he and his council of ministers were committed to boost bilateral ties with India and improve relations, keeping aside the past disputes. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, said that India has agreed to provide a stand-by credit facility of 25 billion US dollars to Maldives for importing products from New Delhi. Jan 2, 2014

India hopes for early resolution of legal tussle of GMR group with Maldivian government

New Delhi, Jan 1 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs has hoped for a resolution of issues between infrastructure firm, GMR and Maldivian government, with both at loggerheads over the Male airport issue. The new President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom would visit India from January 01 to 04. President Gayoom would be accompanied by a high level delegation. GMR, a subsidiary of Bangalore-based GMR Infrastructure limited has been given seven days to leave the Indian Ocean island chain. In 2012, Maldives cancelled its biggest foreign investment project, a $511 million deal with Indian firm GMR Group to develop its international airport, raising questions over the future of foreign investment in the islands renowned for luxury resorts. MEA spokesperson, Syed Akbaruddin said that it was important for both GMR and the government of Maldives to resolve their issues. Maldives Defence Minister in India to boost bilateral ties

New Delhi, Dec 12 (ANI): Minister of Defence and National Security of the Republic of Maldives, Mohamed Nazim, arrived in India with an aim to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation between the two nations. Defence Minister of Maldives arrived in India on December 11 and is scheduled to be here till December 15. On Thursday, Nazim paid a visit to India Gate and offered tribute to the deceased soldiers at the Amar Jawan Jyoti. Nazim was also accorded the Guard of Honour and met Defence Minister of India, AK Antony. When asked about the bilateral defence cooperation between India and Maldives, Antony seemed satisfied.
