Kashmiri separatist slams PDP for having double standards over AFSPA

Srinagar/ New Delhi, Feb 27 (ANI): Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Yasin Malik slammed chief of People's Democratic Party (PDP), Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for double standards. AFSPA gives security forces, battling militancy in the troubled regions of Kashmir and the northeast, sweeping powers to search arrest or shoot people. BJP-PDP have formed an alliance to work out a common programme that focuses on welfare and leaves aside traditionally contentious issues, including the size of the military's presence in the state. Malik added that their group was not afraid of Hindu nationalist group Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and BJP because their policies were straight forward policy. BJP hopes to iron out differences with PDP on AFSPA

New Delhi/ Jammu, Feb 19 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party said on Thursday that proper discussions are important before reaching a conclusion on the revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Jammu and Kashmir. Many civil rights activist and political parties like Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and National Conference (NC) have long been demanding to revoke AFSPA. However, the army has opposed their demands saying they are not even in favour of "partially withdrawing" the rule as it is essential to root out militants. PDP wants AFSPA removed while BJP is strongly against Article 370, which accords special status to Jammu and Kashmir. This could make the tie-up between the two parties uneasy. However, BJP is hopeful of resolving all differences and moving ahead on a positive note. Hinting that it is ready to do form government in Jammu and Kashmir with BJP, the PDP, which has emerged as the single largest party in the assembly elections, sought assurance from its prospective partners over contentious issues like safeguarding Article 370 and revocation of AFSPA. New Delhi/ Srinagar, Nov 15 (ANI): Cabinet ministers on Saturday slammed Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram's remark on AFSPA in which he called it an 'obnoxious law'. Minister of State in Ministry of Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju said that Chidambaram should not take advantage of elections in Jammu and Kashmir and make instigating statements regarding laws. Minister of State in Ministry of External Affairs, Gen (Retd) VK Singh said that AFSPA is a law under Indian Constitution and does not give unlimited power to the Army.
