Pak Rangers foil bid to break into Karachi's Central Jail

Karachi, Oct 14 (ANI): Pakistani paramilitary officials claimed to have foiled a bid to break into Karachi's Central Jail. Addressing a news conference in Karachi, a senior Rangers official, Colonel Tahir Mehmood said Rangers personnel had discovered a 40-metre-long underground tunnel dug under a house near the central jail. Mehmood said they had arrested suspects from a banned militant organisation but did not name it or say how many were detained. However, he said the arrested men had revealed that a tunnel was being dug to enter directly into the jail barracks where high-value targets are being held. He said around 10 metres of further tunnelling was required to enter the jail premises. The Karachi jail holds a large number of high-profile militant detainees and has repeatedly come under threat in recent years. Mehmood said nearly 100 dangerous terrorists were present in the cell near the well where the suspects wanted to enter through the tunnel. Oct 14, 2014

Hundreds of evacuees from flood ravaged J and K board Indian Army vehicle to leave the place

Srinagar, Sep 19 (ANI): Hundreds of evacuees boarded Indian army vehicles to leave flooded region of Jammu and Kashmir. More than 75,000 people were still in partly submerged homes in Srinagar, where roads have been transformed into stagnant canals strewn with wreckage, trash and dead animals. The Indian army has deployed about 30,000 troops for rescue and relief operations and soldiers distributed 2,24,000 litres of water and food to survivors. A senior official of India's paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF), PV Sandhu, said they would urge the government to provide transportation facilities to the flood victims. The authorities also dug a tunnel to dewater the parts of the city and let water flow back into the Jhelum River or out of the city. Sep 19, 2014

Japanese technology helps to curb flood situation

Bangkok, Sep 16 (ANI): Bangkok, the cultural, political and economic capital of Thailand is a growing metropolis. It is located on the flat and low-lying area of the Chao Phraya river, with an average elevation of 1.5 meters above sea level. Most of the area was originally swamp land, which was gradually drained and irrigated by the construction of canals, between sixteenth and nineteenth centuries. Flood control during the rainy season is one of the most important challenges in Bangkok. The city has vast network of canals, but its draining ability is limited and unsustainable when it rains heavily. In order to cope with floods, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration constructed a drainage underground tunnel by connecting the Makkasan Pond to and three canals in the city, to a pump station at the Chao Phraya river. This is the water intake building at Makkasan Pond. Sep 16, 2014

Customer satisfaction remains prime focus for Japanese service providers

Tokyo, Aug 26 (ANI): Tokyo, the mega city, is known for its best telecommunication services. The secret lies in these tunnels, which has an underground fiber network, known as "Toudo" in Japanese. It spans a distance of 290 kilometers in Tokyo, and a total distance of 650 kilometers nationwide. The deepest tunnel stood 50 meters below the ground level. Japan's first telecom tunnel system constructed nearly a century ago in 1926 is still in use. The Tunnel securely conceals telecom cables, both copper wires used for generations, and thin optical fiber cables that can transmit grater amount of data. Many companies are now adopting cloud computing and expanding to utilize data centers. The aerial wire is one of the ways to connect cables, but it has weakness against storms and natural disasters. Pipelines are much secure in underground, but it has very limited in extensibility. Aug 26, 2014
