Sexual harassment: Law intern moves SC against ex-judge Swatanter Kumar

New Delhi, Jan 13 (ANI): The law intern who has accused former Suprme Court judge Swatanter Kumar of sexually harassing her while he was still in office has now moved the Supreme Court seeking action in the case. Her petition will be heard by the apex court on Wednesday. She has asked for a panel to probe her allegations and also challenged the top court's decision not to accept complaints against retired judges.

New Delhi/ Kolkata, Jan 11 (ANI): In a fresh setback to judiciary system in India, another former judge of Supreme Court, Swatanter Kumar was accused of sexual assault by a law intern, sparking debates on the credibility of the judicial system. The young law graduate who is also an alumnus of Kolkata-based National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) alleged sexual harassment by Kumar, who worked with her in 2011.

Presidential reference against AK Ganguly approved: P Chidambaram

New Delhi, Jan 03 (ANI): Finance Minister P Chidambaram said that the Cabinet had approved the proposal of sending a presidential reference to remove former justice AK Ganguly from the post of chairman of West Bengal Human Rights Commission. Ganguly is accused of sexually harassing a 22-year-old law intern, with a new damaging charge emerging that he had accepted the hospitality of a Pakistani national without permission. While addressing a news conference in New Delhi, Chidambaram said that the union cabinet had granted the proposal of the Interior Ministry to send a reference for inquiry into the allegations against the retired Supreme Court judge.

New Delhi/Kolkata, Dec 19 (ANI): Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Thursday said that the government had sought assistance from the law department in preparing a Presidential reference for removal of former Supreme Court judge AK Ganguly, accused of sexually harassing a law intern, from the post of West Bengal Human Right Commission Chairperson. Shinde stated that his ministry had already sent the papers to the law department. Explaining the legal procedures that have to be followed to impeach Ganguly, the chairman of national commission for human rights, K G Balakrishnan, said that he can only be removed after a presidential reference is sent to the apex court.
