Maoists torch vehicles in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli

Gadchiroli, Jan 24 (ANI): Maoists set fire to 14 vehicles of a road construction company in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. The vehicles belonging to a road construction company called Sarla, based in Andhra Pradesh, were set on fire by a group of 100 Maoists. The company had been working in the area for the last two months and had so far completed the construction of 13 kilometres of road. So far, no Maoist group has come forward claiming the responsibility for the attack. The reason behind this attack is also not yet clear. Among the vehicles burnt were eight tractors, two trucks, one road roller, one pick up vehicle and two bull dozers. Reportedly, the police have launched a manhunt to nab the culprits. Jan 24, 2015

Assam beefs up security ahead of Republic Day

Guwahati, Jan 24 (ANI): Assam tightened security across all its districts ahead of 66th Republic Day. In a sign of growing warmth between the two nations, US President Barack Obama will be the chief guest at this year's Republic Day glitzy parade which showcases country's military might and rich heritage. The preparation for Republic Day, which is celebrated on January 26, is in full swing. Participants including men in uniform and school students carried out rehearsals in dusty ground, while the state is under security blanket and CCTV cameras have been installed in and around the parade ground. Security personnel are carrying out regular checks at railway platforms, tracks and also conducting frisking of vehicles and commuters on road in Guwahati city. As the northeast is home to several separatist revolts, thousands of troops are deployed to prevent any untoward incident. J and K separatist group calls for shutdown to protest Prophet's cartoons published by Charlie Heb

Srinagar, Jan 24 (ANI): A complete shutdown called by a separatist group in Jammu and Kashmir, to protest against blasphemous cartoons of Prophet Mohammad published in a French magazine, paralysed normal life. The call for protest was given by Chief of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), Yaseen Malik, against the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, which has been known for lampooning Islam. In the rally called 'The Prophet Prestige Rally', protestors shouted slogans against the magazine and demanded the cartoonists behind drawing Prophet's caricatures be hanged. Roads and markets in Srinagar wore a deserted look as shops across the valley remained shut and vehicles stayed off the roads. Snowfall blocks strategic highway in Kashmir valley

Udhampur, Jan 22 (ANI): Fresh spell of snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir threw life out of gear on Thursday, leading to the closure of strategic Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. According to the state authorities, over 300-kilometre-long highway has been closed for all types of vehicular traffic since early Thursday morning because of snowfall at some places. The suspension has stranded hundreds of vehicles at various points of the highway. The highway shall remain closed for traffic for uncertain period of time. In order to know the latest status of the highway the travellers would have to contact the control rooms at northern cities of Srinagar and Jammu. Jan 22, 2015

School student killed in accident in Ranchi, angry mob burns buses

Ranchi, Jan 21 (ANI): A mob, angry at the death of a school student, burnt vehicles in Ranchi on Wednesday. A student of fourth standard was run over in a road accident when a bus and a car were trying to overtake each other. The student died on the spot. However, it is not clear if the student was hit by the bus or the car. Angry people spilled onto the roads, set two buses on fire and blocked traffic to protest against the student's death. In order to clear the road, the police had to chase away the angry mob. An eyewitness, Rakesh Kumar, said the mob could only be controlled once the police teams arrived on the scene. Meanwhile, another eyewitness, Pushpesh Yadav, confirmed the student died on the spot. School students too came out to protest against this accident and shouted slogans demanding justice for the deceased student. Jan 21, 2015

Hanoi/ Japan, Jan 20 (ANI): In order to meet the rapid growth in electricity demand driven by a growing economy and expanding industrial base, Vietnam has decided to introduce nuclear energy. A developing country with a population of 92.5 million, Vietnam has selected Japan as its partner. The government issued a master plan specifying the project of building nuclear power plants, as the first time in Vietnam and South East Asia. Electric Power University (EPU) in Hanoi, is one of the six universities in Vietnam that are authorized to provide human resource training in nuclear power generation. The University has opened the Department of Nuclear Power in 2010 where students are learning basic knowledge required for nuclear power generation. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries is one of the first partners which effectively cooperates and supports Electric Power University and provide nuclear engineering lecture. Recently, "Cool Japan lounge" exhibition was held at AEON Mall Binh Duon Canary in Vietnam by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, as a part of "Cool Japan World Trial" initiatives.
