It happens: Buddhist monks performs special prayers for world peace

Bodhgaya, Oct 17 (ANI): Buddhist monks of Lao People's Democratic Republic on Wednesday performed special prayers in holy town of Bodhgaya for world peace and tranquillity. Envoy of People's Democratic Republic, Southam Sakonninhom, participated in the prayers and after inaugurating the new building of Lao Buddhist monastery. Lao envoy expressed happiness after performing the prayers and hailed the country's tradition. Buddhists believe that the Buddha, "the awakened", to the laws of the universe, which are said to be operating eternally. Buddhist scriptures describe Bodh Gaya as the "Navel of the Earth", where pilgrims and tourists from Sri Lanka, China, Japan and the entire of southeastern Asia throng to this holiest of Buddhist shrines every year. The Mahabodhi Temple complex is located in this town; it is the place where the Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment. Oct 17, 2014

India becoming safe haven for militants, says Bangladeshi activist

Dhaka, Oct 17 (ANI): Bangladeshi human rights activist and journalist Shahriar Kabir said that India is turning into a safe haven for militant groups, especially Jamaat-e-Islami. Kabir was speaking at a seminar on international terrorism organised by the Forum for Secular Bangladesh and Trail of the War Criminals in Dhaka. The speakers expressed concern about the recent militancy activities by Jamaat-e-Islami in India with reference to the bomb blast in Burdwan district in West Bengal during the festival of Durga Puja on October 02. The speakers urged that government of India and Bangladesh should take strict actions to prevent such militancy activities in both the nations and they also rooted for a task force to be made along with other regional countries of South Asia. The TMC leaders had blamed the Central government for the Burdwan blast saying the intrusion of members of extremist groups into the state led to the incident. Oct 17, 2014

Syrian Envoy lauds India's policy of non aggression into Syria to fight against ISIS

New Delhi, Oct 17 (ANI): Syrian Envoy to India, Riad Kamel Abbas lauded India's foreign policy of non-aggression into Syria to check Islamic State (IS) militants. Islamic State (IS), which controls swathes of land in Syria and Iraq, has been making inroads into South Asia, which has traditionally been dominated by local Taliban insurgencies against both the Pakistan and Afghanistan governments. Abbas told reporters in New Delhi that Syria appreciates India's efforts to find a political solution and execute aspirations of Syrians.
