Political leaders laud PM Modi's maiden visit to Nepal

New Delhi, Aug 4 (ANI): Politicians on Monday hailed the first bilateral visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Nepal, which aimed to scale the ties between the two nations to greater heights. Modi is on a two-day visit to Kathmandu to help speed up negotiations on a power trade pact that is at the centre of his new diplomatic drive. Lauding Modi's Nepal visit, BJP Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said it would have a greater impact on the relations between the two countries. Earlier on Sunday, Modi offered Nepal $1 billion in concessional loans to help build power plants and roads during his address in Nepal assembly, aimed at shoring up support in a region where China is making inroads. Meanwhile, BJD leader Jay Panda said Modi's visit would rule out allegations of big brotherly attitude levelled by neighbouring countries. SC appoints one member commission to enquire into 2006 Meerut fire tragedy

Meerut, Aug 01 (ANI): Supreme Court of India appointed a one-member commission for inquiry into a fire tragedy, which took place at a consumer fair in 2006 in Meerut city of Uttar Pradesh, killing at least 51. The Court bench has ordered that the commission will be headed by former Supreme Court judge SB Sinha. The court also approved a compensation of rupees five lakh for families of the deceased, two lakh for seriously injured and 75,000 for people with minor injuries to be given by the state government. Manipur, July 30 (ANI): Theatres in Manipur have not screened any Hindi film since the year 2000, following the imposition of a ban by the outlawed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF). Because of this ban, cinema houses in the state may not screen a biopic on boxer M.C. Mary Kom, which is set be released in theaters across the country on September 5. The film starring Priyanka Chopra traces Mary's life from her humble roots to her achieving several world titles. Produced by well known Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film is directed by Omung Kumar. Film enthusiasts in Manipur want the film to be screened in the state.
