Festival on aromatic plants of Kashmir to create awareness of its potential in income generation

Srinagar, June 30 (ANI): A six- day festival meant to highlight the potential of indigenous aromatic and medicinal plants of the scenic state in income generation took place in Srinagar city of Kashmir. The festival held in the premises of the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine was named the 'Kashmir Lavender Festival', which brought together farmers, traders and industrialists in the business of aromatic products made out of plants like lavender, rose and rosemary. Director of the Institute, Dr Vishwakarma, said that the aim of the festival was to generate awareness on the market value of these plants that exist nowhere else in the country and the employment opportunities that exist in this business. India's first Corporate Football League to kick off in New Delhi

New Delhi, June 29 (ANI): With the FIFA World Cup having captured the world's attention, Indian capital New Delhi is all set to host the nation's first ever Corporate Football League (CFL) 2014. The first match of the CFL would kick-off on Sunday at the Thyagraj Stadium in New Delhi. 25 Corporate teams would be competing with each other and the tournament would conclude on July 13, which is also the day for the FIFA World Cup final in Brazil. During the inauguration of the CFL on Saturday at the Thyagraj Stadium, Director of CFL Sanjay Singhania said that corporate sector and media together can contribute towards the promotion of football in India. Secretary of the Sports Authority of India Neeraj Kansal, who was also present at the inaugural ceremony, said that the corporate should come forward and help take the sport to a greater level in the nation. Reactions pour in as Gopal Subramaniam withdraws candidature for appointment as SC judge

New Delhi, June 25 (ANI): Former solicitor general Gopal Subramaniam on Wednesday withdrew his candidature for the post of Supreme Court judge. In a letter sent to the Chief Justice of India, Subramaniam requested the latter to withdraw his nomination for judge of the apex court. The government had apparently received a 'negative' report from the CBI about the lawyer who had represented the UPA Government in the 2G scam. It was also alleged that he has links with corporate lobbyist Nira Radia. Citing the CBI report, the government had asked the Supreme Court collegium to reconsider Subramaniam's nomination. Farmers in North India pray for monsoon in fear of drought

Nagpur /Moradabad, June 25 (ANI): Farmers in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh prayed for monsoon as they feared drought like situation. Farmers, in Nagpur city, were experiencing difficult times as they had sown seeds hoping for downpour but were left high and dry. Earlier, their yield was marred by extreme drought, untimely rain or hail storm. A farmer, Moti Singh Deo said they were losing hope of monsoon as the crops were dying. The monsoon has covered half of India's landmass four days behind the usual schedule, failing to recover from a late start that has slowed sowing of summer crops in a country where half of the farmland still lacks irrigation. Millions of small farmers are struggling to survive as erratic weather hits their only source of income.
