Pakistani Taliban confirm death of Hakimullah Mehsud

New Delhi, Nov 02 (ANI): The head of the Pakistani Taliban Hakimullah Mehsud was killed by a U.S. drone strike in Pakistan according to several security sources. Mehsud, who was believed to be in his mid-30s and was one of Pakistan's most wanted men, has been reported dead several times before. Late on Friday, several intelligence, army and militant sources across Pakistan confirmed he had been killed in the drone strike in the lawless North Waziristan region. Mehsud's Pakistani Taliban is an umbrella of militant groups separate to but allied to the Afghan Taliban. Mehsud took over the Pakistani Taliban in August 2009 after a drone strike killed the previous leader. His bodyguard and driver were also among the dead. Nov 2, 2013

Raman Singh assures safety against Maoist threats during upcoming state polls

Chhattisgarh, Nov 1 (ANI): Chattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Friday assured of safety and strict policing against Maoist threats during upcoming polls in the province. Voting in Chhattisgarh will be held in two phases on November 11 and November 19. The Intelligence Bureau (IB) has reportedly issued warnings for Bastar region, which is a Maoists stronghold. Earlier on October 19, Maoists had passed on threats to voters by pasting banners in the villages asking them to boycott the upcoming state assembly polls in the region. Reportedly, the Maoists had been going around the villages and distributing pamphlets among the villagers, directing them not to vote.
