Nation pays tribute to Indira Gandhi on her 30th death anniversary

New Delhi, Oct 31 (ANI): The nation is paying tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 30th death anniversary on Friday. Congress Party President and Indira Gandhi's daughter-in-law Sonia Gandhi and members of her family were the first to reach Shakti Sthal, the memorial dedicated to Indira Gandhi to pay a floral tribute. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was also present at the venue. Other leaders and people from all walks of life are expected to follow. Indira Gandhi fell to assassins' bullets on this day in 1984 at her 1, Safdarjung Road residence in New Delhi. She was killed by her Sikh bodyguards more than four months after Operation Blue Star, which was launched on the Golden Temple in Amritsar. Functions will also be held at the Indira Gandhi Memorial at 1 Safdarjung Road. Meanwhile, President Pranab Mukherjee also paid tribute at Shakti Sthal to mark Indira Gandhi's death anniversary. Over 3,000 victims of the 1984 violence, triggered by the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, are likely to benefit from the government's announcement. This announcement comes a day ahead of the 30th anniversary of the 1984 Sikh riots. The order was passed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who took the decision after a high-level meeting where the issue of compensation to civilian victims of communal, terrorist or Naxal violence was discussed. Music video launched on Modi's Clean India vision

Modi had launched the 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' or Clean India Mission, on birth anniversary of freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi to modernise sanitation within five years. The video titled 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' (One India, glorious India) has been released to create awareness among the masses on cleanliness. Bollywood stars like Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini and top sporting stars like Sachin Tendulkar, Mahindra Singh Dhoni, Saina Nehwal, Mary Kom and Sushil Kumar feature in the video.
