Bangladeshi businessmen get permanent market place in Agartala

Tripura, Oct 16 (ANI): Tripura has become the first state in the country to have an exclusive market for businessmen from Bangladesh on the first floor of the Mukut Bipani Bitan, a trade centre in the New Capital Complex in capital Agartala. The market is the first of its kind to bring together Bangladeshi products under one roof. In the initial stage, 15 Bangladeshi companies will showcase products like sarees, crockery, handloom items, rubber and electronic goods. A week long Bangladesh expo has been organised at the market by the Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the state’s industry and commerce department. The trade volume between India and Bangladesh has marked a significant increase, especially after India provided tax relief on several Bangladeshi commodities. Oct 16, 2013

BSF helps children with cleft lip in Tripura

Tripura, Oct 11 (ANI): A two-day long medical camp for people with cleft lips was held at Salbagan in the west district of Tripura. At the camp, 14 people, including children and other persons with cleft lips and palates were operated upon by doctors. All patients were from poor families and the funds for organizing the surgical and medical camp were provided by Smile Train. Smile Train, founded in 2000, is an international charity that helps children with cleft lips. All parents were very happy that the BSF helped them in the treatment of their children. The surgeries were performed free of cost. Such camps have been held in the past as well. The initiative gives the children a new lease of life, and a smile on their faces. Oct 11, 2013

Tripura, Oct 08 (ANI): In a bid to boost bilateral trade relations with neighbouring Bangladesh, authorities in Tripura state allowed setting up of a market, which would sell Bangladeshi products in the country. The provincial government of Tripura has provided a permanent market place for Bangladeshi Businessmen where they can sell their products ranging from sarees, handloom products, plastic products, melamine crockery, rubber, electric and electronic goods. This is a first of its kind market in the country where under one roof all Bangladeshi products would be available for the Indian consumers. Agartala, Oct 02 (ANI): Veteran Bangladeshi filmmaker, Nasiruddin Yousuff, sought India’s support to uphold the spirit of 1971 liberation war, while he urged it to join in the fight against the fundamentalists. Yousuff formed a group called 'Friends of Bangladesh' and is holding seminars and talks in his country and outside to ask people to raise their voices against the rising religious fundamentalist groups in Bangladesh. Rasheed Masood found guilty in MBBS seat allocation case

New Delhi, Sept 20 (ANI): A Special CBI court has held Rajya Sabha member Rasheed Masood guilty in a case of corruption and other offences. Masood, Minister of Health in the VP Singh government between 1990 and 1991, was held guilty of fraudulently nominating undeserving candidates to MBBS seats allotted to Tripura in medical colleges across the country from the central pool. Masood's conviction is the first case after the July 10 Supreme Court judgment that struck down sub-section 4 of Section 8 of Representation of the People, RP Act, under which incumbent MPs and MLAs can avoid disqualification till pendency of the appeal against conviction in a higher court. Check post on border of Bangladesh to be functional soon: Secretary Border Management

Akhaura, Sept 12 (ANI): India's secretary of border management, Gauri Kumar says integrated check-post at Indo Bangladesh Border in Tripura is going to be functional by November. A high-level Indian delegation led by the Secretary Border Management reviewed the Integrated Check Posts under construction at Akhaura in Tripura. Other members of the delegation included Indian High Commission in Dhaka, Pankaj Saran and Y S Shahrawat, Chairman, Land Port Authority of India.
