Birthplace of renowned poet in Varanasi to be first E village

Varanasi, Sep 3 (ANI): As a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to develop smart cities in the country, a village of renowned Hindi poet, Munshi Premchand, which comes under Modi’s constituency of Varanasi, is set to develop as the first smart village. Lamhi village in Varanasi city in Uttar Pradesh will be equipped with all facilities and villagers will no longer have to visit other districts or cities for any administrative-related work. Data of each household will be collected and services would be just one step away. District Magistrate, Pranjal Yadav, said everything would be computerized and any application will be filled in the village itself. Data will be collected based on 36 points, including land, personal, income and others. A unique account number will be generated, which will be given to the villagers. On providing the unique account number, all the data of the person will be available. This will help villagers to avail facilities in their area only. Sep 3, 2014

Thousands protested against Tarun Gogoi govt for giving land to corporate houses in Assam

Guwahati, Aug 27 (ANI): Thousands of members of the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) of Assam protested against the government for denying land rights to people living in the hilly regions and wet lands of the state and giving land to corporate houses instead. State Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had announced on August 13, during the state assembly session, that the government would not give land rights to the residents of the region but to multi-national companies, corporates and other people as a means to earn more money. Taking out a mass rally in Guwahati city, the protesters shouted slogans and marched demanding an immediate repeal of the decision. Aug 27, 2014
