After eradicating Polio, Bachchan stands up to eradicate 'TB' from India

Mumbai, Dec 22 (ANI): Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan joined hands with government of Maharashtra to launch an anti-Tuberculosis (TB) campaign. The anti-TB campaign has been titled 'TB Harega, Desh Jeetega'. The campaign involves a range of multimedia content aimed at generating awareness about prevention, timely diagnosis and treatment of TB. According to an annual report of Federal TB Division, titled 'TB India 2014', India accounted for one fourth of the total TB cases in the world. Bachchan, who has been made brand ambassador for the campaign, revealed that he himself was a victim of TB in the past. Also present at the event were the state Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, and chief of Hindu right wing Shiv Sena party, Uddhav Thackeray. According to estimates, almost 40 per cent of the Indian population is infected with TB bacteria out of which a vast majority suffers from latent rather than active TB. Every year in India, TB infects around 2.3 million people and kills 300,000. Bachchan is also the goodwill ambassador for polio UNICEF campaign. As a part of this initiative, Bachchan campaigned extensively encouraging people to ensure that their children get Polio drops regularly. Security personnel kill two militants in Assam

Chirang, Dec 22 (ANI): Security forces killed two militants and rescued a kidnapped businessman in Assam. Two militants of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) were killed in gun battle in Assam's Chirang district along Bhutan border.Security forces rescued an abducted trader from the militants. Following a tip-off, a joint team of army and police launched the operation at Chirang reserve forest area. The rescued trader was identified as Sushil Deb. Security forces recovered one M-16 rifle, one AK series rifle, one Insas rifle, two pistols, 552 rounds of live ammunition from the slain militants. Police said that a combing operation was launched by the specially trained commandos of army, paramilitary forces and Assam police against the NDFB militants in the bordering areas of Bhutan. Congress targets West Bengal CM over Saradha scam

Kolkata, Dec 16 (ANI): Congress party staged a protest against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after one of her ministers was arrested for his role in Saradha scam. Transport minister of West Bengal, Madan Mitra was arrested by CBI on December 12. Protesting Congress workers demanded immediate summon of Banerjee by CBI. Meanwhile, TMC leaders took out a mass rally against the arrest of their minister as they shouted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government. Martin Place siege: Hostages held in Sydney cafe, Islamic flag seen in window

Sydney, Dec 15 (ANI): Hostages have been held inside a central Sydney cafe in Australia on Monday where a black flag with white Arabic writing was seen in the window, raising fears of an attack linked to Islamic militants. Patrons were seen inside a cafe standing with their hands pressed against the windows. A black and white flag similar to those used by Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria was also visible. Part of Martin Place, home to the Reserve Bank of Australia, commercial banks and close to the New South Wales (NSW) state parliament, has been cordoned off by the armed Australian police. Trains and buses have come to a halt and roads have been blocked in the area. Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott called an emergency meeting of the cabinet's national security committee.
