Dhoni's retirement from test cricket garners mixed response

Pune/ Ranchi/ New Delhi, Dec 31 (ANI): The third test between Australia and India in Melbourne failed to deliver a nail-biting finish on Tuesday but ended with a draw tinged with controversy and the shock retirement of long-serving India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni from test cricket. The result secured Australia a 2-0 series victory with a match in reserve, but their triumph was quickly overtaken by the bombshell that Dhoni had pulled the pin on his 90-test career to concentrate on the shorter formats of the game. The statement issued by BCCI said, 'One of India's greatest Test Captains under whose leadership India became the Number 1 team in the Test Rankings MS Dhoni, has decided to retire from Test Cricket citing the strain of playing all formats of Cricket. Dhoni's first coach, Chanchal Bhattacharyya, said that it was the right decision taken at the right time. Former Indian cricketer Chandu Borde also backed Dhoni's decision. However, another former cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad said Dhoni could have left his captaincy and played. Another former cricketer Kirti Azad said the team would have gained from Dhoni's experience. Finance Minister Jaitley rejects Raghuram Rajan's criticism of 'Make in India'

New Delhi, Dec 29 (ANI): Rejecting Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Raghuram Rajan's criticism on 'Make in India' programme, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday said that it is about manufacturing of quality products at low cost, whether they are sold in India or abroad. The minister in his inaugural address of a national workshop on 'Make in India' further said manufacturing remains a challenge for country's economy and cost of capital has been the major factor behind slowed down manufacturing. Emphasizing on manufacturing of quality products at low costs, Jaitley said it was not relevant whether they are sold in India or abroad. Chalking out the ways to open up the roads for manufacturers, Jaitley said the entry point into manufacturing sector needs to be eased and that if we keep doors closed, investments won't come in. There should be an ease of doing business in India. Earlier this month, RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan had criticised 'Make in India' campaign, saying it assumes an export-led growth path of China and it should rather be 'Make for India' with a focus on manufacturing products for the domestic market. Separatist leader Yasin Malik sits on hunger strike, protests against atrocities

Srinagar, Dec 24 (ANI): Separatist leader Yasin Malik on Wednesday continued his hunger strike in Srinagar against what he alleged police highhandedness. Malik, chief of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), has been demanding the release of several youth detained by police during state elections. While a record 65 percent voted in five-phase elections, many tried to boycott the polls by staging protests and hurling stones at security personnel, forcing the latter to make arrests. India has long struggled to bring Kashmiris into the democratic mainstream and elections in the past have been marred by violence and low turn-out. Political leaders in Kashmir blame the federal government for failing to find a political solution as violence ebbed in the past few years. Dec 24, 2014
