Pakistan forces violating human rights in Balochistan

Geneva, June 16: The people of Dera Bugti and Sui in Balochistan are facing the heat of the Pakistan Army's deadly operation. Over a dozen of people have been picked up by the Pakistani armed forces during a search operation in Sui, whereas bombardments have claimed many innocent lives in Dera Bugti's Geyanderi region. Baloch political parties allege that the armed forces are carrying out door to door searches without proper warning, and have tortured and beaten up women during the operation. However, Baloch nationalist leader and representative of Balochistan at the UNHRC Mehran Marri blamed Pakistan's Nawaz Sharif Government for not protecting the rights of the people of Balochistan. The discovery of mass graves in Balochistan in January this year exposed the "pick, kill and dump" policy of the Pakistani armed forces. The Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) estimates that over 100 dead bodies have been recovered from three mass graves, and have called it 'genocide' of the Baloch people. Jun 16, 2014

Kudankulam anti-nuke federation rubbishes IBs allegation of Greenpeace stalling development

Chennai, June 13 (ANI): People's movement against nuclear energy, Kudankulam anti-nuke federation, slammed the Indian Intelligence Bureau (IB) for leveling foreign funding allegations in its report submitted to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). The IB, in its report on June 03, has described the Greenpeace, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), as 'a threat to national economic security' and has claimed that there could be negative implications of the NGOs' role on GDP growth ranging from 2-3 per cent per annum. The report said that foreign funded NGOs negatively impact economic development in the country, while citing activities ranging from protests against nuclear and coal plants and funding of sympathetic research. Speaking in Chennai, Convener of Kudankulam anti-nuke federation, G. Anton Gomez, on Friday questioned the credibility of the report stating that the Kudankulam protest has been a people’s movement ever since its inception. Jun 13, 2014
