Army intensifies operation to hunt down tribal guerillas in Assam

Kokrajhar, Jan 04 (ANI): Combing operations against the tribal militant group National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) are going on in full swing along India-Bhutan border in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of Assam. Army, police and paramilitary forces under the unified command structure are carrying out joint operations in the strong hold areas of tribal guerillas in the forest terrain. The massive patrolling along the India-Bhutan border areas has been intensified while the army is searching out militants hidden deep inside the Ripu and Chirang reserve forests in Kokrajhar and Aie-Valley division in Chirang district. The border in the two districts has also been sealed by the security forces as NDFB militants could sneak through border areas. India has sought help from Bhutan, Myanmar and Bangladesh in an offensive against the militant group in Assam. Jan 4, 2015

Maoist blast in Jharkhand injures two security personnel

Raipur, Jan 03 (ANI): An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast triggered by Maoists in Chhattisgarh injured two constables of paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Saturday. The blast took place at 8 am when a CoBRA (Compact Battalion for Resolute Action) contingent unit was conducting regular operations in Chintagufa area of Sukma district. The two injured were brought to a hospital in Raipur. The Maoists, also known as Naxals in India, say they are fighting for the rights of poor farmers and landless labourers. Jan 3, 2015

New Year begins with marathon in Shimla

Shimla, Jan 01 (ANI): Local administration in Shimla on Thursday (January 01) organized a high altitude half-marathon to propagate federal government's Clean India Mission on New Year day. About 200 participants ran the 2.5- kilometer stretch. Addition Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Shimla, Unis, who flagged off the marathon, said the importance of the otherwise an annual exercise was to spread awareness about cleanliness. Some of the participants in the marathon vowed to make the run a part of their daily routine. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the nationwide cleanliness mission on October 02 last year to raise awareness at the grassroots level for better sanitation in a bid to create a sense of responsibility among citizens under the banner of 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan' or Clean India Mission.
