Carpet exporters expect boost in sales after PM Modi's US visit

Varanasi, Oct 11 (ANI): Exporters in carpet industry in Uttar Pradesh expect a boost in sales after the recent five-day US visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Traders say that the Bhadohi region of the state is one of the largest manufacturers of carpets and is considered to be an earning town. Also, 60 per cent of the carpets are exported to the US from India. In a bid to boost the industry, exporters said Modi's US visit would benefit them. Yashodhara Raje Scindia underscores skill development for youth at Global Investors Summit

Indore, Oct 09 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Commerce and Industry Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia said at the Global Investors Summit that she will take steps for skill development of the youths and unemployed of the state so that they become self reliant. During a news conference at the Global Investors Summit, the minister said the regional government will ensure skill availability within the state. Barely weeks after Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, launched his 'Make in India' initiative, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, inaugurated a three-day Global Investors Summit on Wednesday, inviting business leaders from across the world to invest in the state. Scindia added that enhancing employment is one of the primary objectives of her government. She said she will also urge corporate houses to adopt industrial training institutes so that they can directly hire talent from there. Twelve arrested for attempting suicide in protest of Narmada Dam project in Gujarat

Chhota Udaipur, Oct 07 (ANI): Police arrested twelve villagers as they attempted suicide by drowning in the canal in protest against the Narmada Dam project in Gujarat. The villagers, including a woman, from the Naswadi village in Chhota Udaipur district, jumped into a canal near the dam after their repeated appeals to the government were not met with. Many of these villagers lost their lands and sources of income to the project that took form in 1979, as part of an initiative to produce hydroelectricity and increase irrigation. Police officials said they managed to rescue all twelve villagers after they had jumped in protest. He added that they were given medical aid after they had been rescued. Around 42 families have been affected by this decades-long project which has been regularly dogged by protests. The Narmada dam, also called the Sardar Sarovar dam is one of the country's biggest dams. Oct 7, 2014
