Former PM Manmohan Singh receives Japan's top national award

Tokyo, Nov 05 (ANI): Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday was awarded "Grand Cordon of the Order of the Paulownia Flowers", one of Japan's highest awards from Japanese Emperor Akihito, as part of a bi-annual decoration ceremony. He received the highest possible award in the Orders of the Rising Sun for his significant contribution to the enhancement of relations and promotion of friendship between Japan and India for about 35 years. It was first awarded in 1888 and is only topped by the Supreme Orders of the Chrysanthemum. More than 4,000 people received an award during this session for their contributions to cultural development or the public good. Nov 5, 2014

Bollywood Actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar dies at 64

Mumbai, Nov 03 (ANI): Bollywood Actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar best known for playing negative roles, passed away at a hospital early on Monday. He was 64. Amrapurkar was being treated for lung infection at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital (KDAH) in Mumbai and was admitted there two weeks ago and was on life support since then. In his long career, he has won two Filmfare awards - in 1984, he won the award for the best supporting actor for 'Ardh Satya' and in 1991, the best villain trophy for 'Sadak'. The actor is also known for his performance in Aankhen, Ishq, Coolie No 1 and Gupt: The Hidden Truth among others. Born and brought up in a Maharashtrain Brahmin family, Sadashiv Amrapurkar is fondly called Tatya by his family and close friends. Meanwhile, Bollywood grieved on the loss. Politicos urge govt to take action as Lankan court awards death penalty to five Indian fishermen

New Delhi/ Chennai, Oct 30 (ANI): Politicos on Thursday urged the Indian government to take quick action after a Sri Lankan court awarded death penalty to five Tamil fishermen. The fishermen have been given death penalty for drug smuggling reportedly. Earlier in the day, MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin had stated that the Indian government feels the fishermen are innocent and a legal process will be followed by the Indian government through the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka to appeal against this judgement.
