Bhopal observes no vehicle Sunday to create eco friendly city with healthy people

Bhopal, Sep 21 (ANI): A No Vehicle Sunday dawned in Bhopal to make residents aware of the importance of an eco friendly, healthy, unpolluted environment. The drive is called “Raahgiri Concept” which is India’s first sustained car-free citizen initiative where participants are pedestrians (raahgir) who play a major role. In fact this drive was started in Gurgaon on November 17, 2013 and the participants had made this movement nationally and internationally acclaimed through their active participation. The salient features of this concept include road safety and promoting sustainable transport, Environment, Physical activities-health and Social inclusiveness. With these aims in mind, pedestrians reclaim the streets for themselves under this drive. City Engineer in Bhopal Municipal Corporation, Devendra Tiwari, said both the Municipal Corportion and Bhopal Link Limited are working together for the last 4-5 years to promote more and more usage of non motor public transport. Hundreds of evacuees from flood ravaged J and K board Indian Army vehicle to leave the place

Srinagar, Sep 19 (ANI): Hundreds of evacuees boarded Indian army vehicles to leave flooded region of Jammu and Kashmir. More than 75,000 people were still in partly submerged homes in Srinagar, where roads have been transformed into stagnant canals strewn with wreckage, trash and dead animals. The Indian army has deployed about 30,000 troops for rescue and relief operations and soldiers distributed 2,24,000 litres of water and food to survivors. A senior official of India's paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF), PV Sandhu, said they would urge the government to provide transportation facilities to the flood victims. The authorities also dug a tunnel to dewater the parts of the city and let water flow back into the Jhelum River or out of the city. Sep 19, 2014

Gandhinagar, Sep 17 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought his mother's blessings on his 64th birthday, his first after assuming office amid greetings pouring in from across the nation on Wednesday. On the occasion of his birthday, Modi began his day by visiting his home state Gujarat. Donning saffron kurta, Modi arrived home, 23 km from Ahmedabad, alone in a normal vehicle without any security to meet his mother Heeraben on his first birthday after assuming office as Prime Minister. He touched his mother's feet and conversed with her. Heeraben fed him with sweets and blessed him. She also presented him with a gift as a gesture.
