Sharp hike in food prices dampens festive spirit of Ramadan in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 05 (ANI): The sharp hike in the prices of essential commodities during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan has dampened the festive spirit in Kashmir. During the holy month, consumption of these essential commodities increases automatically as compared to other months. Another resident, Farooq Ahmad blaming the government said that the price of vegetables and fruits varies on a daily basis. Soaring prices of basic goods such as milk and potatoes lifted retail food inflation in May to 9.4 percent and there have been fears of worse to come with the delayed spread of the monsoon to the grain bowl region of northwest India. Meanwhile, Director of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Bashir Ahmad Khan, said that the department is monitoring the market to check inflation. Jul 5, 2014
