Finance Minister to finalise tax collection roadmap with excise officials

New Delhi, July 21 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday met the top brass of the Income Tax department and Central Board of Direct Taxes and discussed all issues related to tax collection. Jaitley inaugurated the two-day annual conference of principal chief commissioners, principal director generals, chief commissioners and director generals of income tax in New Delhi. This is the 30th Annual Conference of heads of the Income Tax Department. The major focus during the two-day conference would be on the accountability of assessing officers, non-filers monitoring system, data warehousing and business intelligence, role of directorate of I and CI in changing scenario, search, seizure and surveys -study of effectiveness among others. Sabyasachi Panda sent to ten days of police custody

Bhubaneswar, July 19 (ANI): Court has sent India___s top Maoist leader, Sabyasachi Panda to ten days of police custody after his arrest in Odisha. Panda was produced in front of the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) of Berhampur amid tight security on Friday evening where he was ordered to be sent on 10-day police custody. Acting on intelligence information, a police team nabbed the 48-year-old fugitive rebel leader after raiding a hideout at Berhampur in Odisha_s Ganjam district. Police recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition from his possession. DIG of Police (Southern Range) Amitabh Thakur termed the arrest of top rebel leader as a major blow to the Maoist outfit. Police informed that Panda is accused of several heinous crimes, including the murder of a Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader, Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, in 2008 and abduction of two Italians in 2012. Himachal Pradesh steps up security in border areas with J&K after reports of militants___ movement

Shimla, July 19 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh has stepped up security in border areas with Jammu and Kashmir after reports of militants___ movement, said police chief, Sanjay Kumar. Director General of Police (DGP), Kumar, said that the intelligence input was passed on by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) authorities in Jammu and Kashmir. Kumar added that patrolling was intensified on the roads connecting Chamba district with Jammu and Kashmir to prevent any attempt by extremists to infiltrate. Chamba district shares nearly 200 kilometers border with Jammu and Kashmir and it is easy for the militants to infiltrate due to mountainous terrain. Malaysia Airlines crash in Ukraine killing 295 aboard

Hrabove, Ukraine, July 18 (ANI): A Malaysian airliner was brought down over eastern Ukraine killing all 295 people aboard and sharply raising the stakes in a conflict between Kiev and pro-Moscow rebels. The plane was enroute to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam, and it is being said that it was shot down. Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott said on Friday that _Russian-backed rebels_ were apparently behind the shooting down of a Malaysia Airlines passenger jetliner. Ukraine_s state security chief has accused Russian military intelligence officers of involvement with pro-Russian rebels in the downing of the airliner on Thursday, but Western leaders have until now been less quick to assign blame. Russian President Vladimir Putin also expressed sorrow for the loss and blamed the region_s military conflict in general. Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama also offered his condolences.
