It happens: Tribal Fair

Bhubaneswar, Jan 31 (ANI): The popular tribal fair, which is held every year on India's Republic Day in Bhubaneswar city of eastern Odisha province, gained more popularity this year as visitors from the country as well as abroad thronged it. People visited the annual state level tribal fair, 'Adivasi Mela', and saw the culture of Tribal communities. Visitors were seen taking a look at every stall and were attracted to tribal huts, jewellery, food items, etc. Around 175 stalls have been put up at the fair, which will go on for a fortnight. The fair was a perfect and colourful rendezvous of music and dance performances along with the artefacts displayed by tribal communities. Every year, changes in the fair's designs are made with the aim of making it attractive for the visitors and beneficial for the tribes in terms of profit making. Renowned tribal artists performed traditional dance, song and drama. As many as 125 tribal dance forms will be performed during the festival. Jan 31, 2014

Finance minister calls for technology advancement for customs department

New Delhi, Jan 27 (ANI): In an event to felicitate Customs officials on Monday to mark the International Customs Day in New Delhi, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, emphasized on the need for technology advancement in the Customs department. Chidambaram honoured the work of many Customs officials by presenting them with certificates. Chidambaram focused on the advancement of technology in this sector as it has almost become the driving force of the 21st century. Along with GST, Customs will become the second major tax revenue, as stated by Chidambaram. He emphasized that customs are essential as they aid legitimate trade and prevent illegitimate trade. Magh Bihu celebrated in Assam

Guwahati, Jan 13 (ANI): Celebrations of harvest festival Magh Bihu are in full swing in Guwahati city of Assam with fairs being set up. A five day fair from January 9 to January 13 was organized to mark the celebration of the harvest festival. The fair serves as a platform for people to know about their culture and traditional food. Fair organizer Binita Deka said that besides providing a market, people are given fresh food items through this fair, which are often difficult to access. Some of the traditional food items that were prepared include Pitha, Tilar Laru, Sunga Pitha, Tekeli Pitha, rice cakes and coconut sweets.
