Northeast festival in New Delhi sends a message of national integration part - 1

New Delhi, Nov 30 (ANI): 'Insurgence to Resurgence' was the theme of the 2nd edition of the "Northeast Festival - Connecting People, Celebrating life", at the Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts in New Delhi. The 4-day long cultural extravaganza was organised by Trend MMS, with support from the eight northeastern states, Union Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of DoNER and the Northeast Community, Delhi. Sportspersons from the northeast who won medals at the recent Commonwealth and Asian games were felicitated at the inaugural session. Leaders, policy makers and various stakeholders came together for discussion sessions on critical issues including tourism, employment, business opportunities and investment in IT sector in Northeast. Fashion designers from the region put together a vibrant show showcasing the traditional weaving patterns, rich colorful fabrics and jewelry worn by the numerous tribes of the Northeast. Philately exhibition displaying world's first, rare stamps draws crowd in Kochi

Kochi, Nov 28 (ANI): Some unique and rare collections of stamps ranging from world's first ‘Penny Black' to the oldest ones along with India's heritage stamps were on display at a philately exhibition in Kerala. The two-day exhibition called ‘Kochipex 2014', which pulled sizeable crowd including school children to veteran philatelists, began on Thursday in Kochi. Stamps depicting Jesus Christ's life (birth to resurrection) and painter-sculptor Leonardo da Vinci's ‘Vitrovian Man' were also on display at the exhibition. The exhibition that started with a ceremonial function was a visual treat for the enthusiasts and stamp collectors. The exhibition also gave a chance to exhibit collection of coins and Indian rupee notes for the collectors. Stamps carrying photos of India's former politicians and greats like Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Mahatma Gandhi among others also attracted visitors. M Venkateswarlu, Post Master-General, central region of India Post said that such exhibitions should be organised regularly across the country to encourage the hobby of collecting stamps, especially among students. New Delhi, Nov 28 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs on Friday moved on from black umbrellas and shawls to demonstrating outside the parliament with earthen pots to protest outside against government's decision to amend the MGNREGA. Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) has brought work to millions of impoverished villagers. The party demanded that instead of amending the Act, the Centre should instead raise the wages paid under the popular scheme that guarantees a minimum 100 days of employment in a year to those living below poverty line in rural areas. Meanwhile, in an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 28 prominent economists said they were alarmed to hear of moves to change the NREGA, which provides jobs for 50 million households. New Delhi, Nov 28 (ANI): Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi visited Rangpur Pahadi slums in south Delhi, where hundreds of dwellings were demolished a couple of days ago, and sent out a stern warning to the Centre against resorting to such action. Vowing to fight for the poor who were left homeless after Tuesday's demolition drive, Rahul said that if they want to use the bulldozer again, it will be his body they will have to cross first. The slum dwellers chanted slogans in support of the Congress vice-president as he interacted with some of them. Gandhi’s visit to the Rangpuri Pahari slum comes at a time when Delhi is gearing up for the assembly polls. Politicos offer last respect to Congress veteran Murli Deora

Mumbai, Nov 24 (ANI): Politicos from various political parties offered their last respect to former union minister and senior Congress leader Murli Deora on Monday at the party office. The 77-year-old Congress leader was suffering from cancer. He breathed his last at 3.25 a.m. in Mumbai. He is survived by his wife and two sons. Several leaders including President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress President Sonia Gandhi have condoled the demise of the Congress veteran. Deora held several important positions during his decades-long political career. During the UPA-1 regime, Deora was the Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas.
