University vice-chancellor blames students for unruly action on campus in Kolkata

Kolkata/Chennai, Sep 17 (ANI): Vice-chancellor of Jadavpur University in Kolkata, Abhijeet Chakraborty, on Wednesday blamed students of attacking the authorities during their protest against the alleged molestation of a fellow student.The incident happened on Tuesday when students were demonstrating inside the campus against the molestation of a second year student of Jadavpur University. Reportedly, the student was molested by few male students who dragged her inside the boys' hostel on August 28. The university vice-chancellor said that he was held by the students who were demanding fresh probe into the matter. The victim had registered a complaint with the police, and investigation has begun in the case but no arrests have been made so far. Sep 17, 2014

Woman molestation case: 35 Jadavpur University students arrested for protesting

Kolkata, Sep 17 (ANI): About 35 students who were protesting outside the Jadavpur university campus against the molestation of a woman student were arrested by the police on Wednesday. The students were gheraoing the vice chancellor and registrar demanding a fresh probe into the case where a woman student was allegedly dragged into a men's hostel and sexually molested. The students' union demanded a fresh probe panel and insisted that the gherao would not be lifted until some assurance was given in the matter. It is being widely reported that the students were lathicharged by the police and dragged. Kolkata, Sep 15 (ANI): In a shameful act by a restaurant authority in Kolkata, Park street rape victim was denied from entering the place for being a victim of the heinous crime. The victim went to the restaurant Saturday night with her fiancé where she was 'insulted' and denied entry in front of people present there. She later filed an FIR following which the police assured her of necessary actions and adequate security if required. The 40-year-old woman was allegedly denied entry by the management of Ginger, a restaurant-cum-bar in south Kolkata's Kalighat area.
