Mud rally to promote safe driving thrills Bike lovers in Bhopal

Bhopal, Sep 21 (ANI): Wheels smoked, brakes screeched, engines thundered and the crowd roared on Sunday (September 21) as some of the best bikers passed through the mud water obstacle during the Mud Challenge Bike Rally in Bhopal city of Madhya Pradesh. More than 70 bikers from across the country participated in the rally the theme of which was safe driving. The race was organised in three categories beginners, expert and open riders. Hundreds of spectators gathered to witness the gruelling rally and to cheer the dare devil rally riders. A participant, Syed Azam, said that mud bike rally is a tough competition as the participant faces many hurdles to pass through the muddy track. Man arrested with 218 turtles at railway station in Kanpur

Kanpur, Sep 21 (ANI): A man was arrested with 218 turtles packed in two sack bags at Kanpur Railway station that were being smuggled to Kolkata. Government Railway Police (GRP) Inspector, Tripurari Pandey said that the man was trying to smuggle the turtles to Kolkata. The turtles recovered from the smuggler are estimated to be worth millions in the international market. Pandey also said that the turtles were primarily used for consumption or for making medicines. There is a huge demand of turtles in Southeast Asia and China. Apart from being consumed and making medicines, turtles are believed to have aphrodisiac properties as well. Kanpur is one of the crucial transit points for turtle smugglers looking to sneak them out of India via sea ports in Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. Sep 21, 2014

Classical dance festival entices audiences in eastern India

Bhubaneswar, Sept.19 (ANI): The latest edition of classical Odissi dance Ashtapadi festival kicked off in India's eastern Bhubaneswar city, pays an ode to Sanskrit poet Jayadev from the 12th century. The Ashtapadi festival was inaugurated by Odisha Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik. The fourth edition of the festival includes some of the best known names in Odissi genre. Prior to the dance festival, a book 'Sampoorna Geeta Govinda', authored by noted scholar of Odisha's cultural heritage and musician Dr Subas Pani was released by the Chief Minister. The performing arts festival features Odisha's classical dance Odissi dance performances and vocal recitals of all twenty four songs of Jayadeva's Geetagovinda. Dr.Subas was hopeful that the colourful festival will provide a complete aesthetic experience to the audiences. The festival has been mounted by Sri Geeta Govinda Pratishtana of Puducherry, which has been making its presence felt across the country over the last few years with elaborate dance events dedicated to the 12th century epic of Jayadeva. Students' union to move court in JADAVPUR UNIVERSITY molestation case in Kolkata

Kolkata, Sept 19 (ANI): Protesting students' union of Jadavpur University in Kolkata city will move court to seek justice for the alleged molestation of a victim in hostel. The protesters shut down the institution and demanded resignation of Vice Chancellor of the university over alleged molestation of other students during their protest. The victim student was molested by few male students who dragged her inside the boys’ hostel on August 28. Students further alleged that police authorities dragged out students and manhandled them. More than 30 students were arrested by the police while some of them were also injured. Protesters demanded Vice Chancellor Abhijeet Chakraborty's resignation and suspension of police officials, who manhandled students, and also an impartial inquiry. Sep 19, 2014

Kolkata Student union calls for shutdown over alleged molestation of Jadavpur University student

Kolkata, Sep 18 (ANI): Four student unions in West Bengal called for a strike on Thursday and demanded resignation of Vice Chancellor of Jadavpur University over alleged molestation of a student in university hostel. Students also accused police of attacking and molesting girls while they were protesting against the alleged molestation of a fellow student in the university. The incident happened when students were demonstrating against molestation of the second year student of Jadavpur University in Kolkata. According to reports, the student was molested by few male students who dragged her inside the boy's hostel on August 28.
