People revel in Holi celebrations in Uttar Pradesh

Mathura/ Varanasi, Mar 02 (ANI): Daubed in colours, people celebrated festival of colours, 'Holi', with pageantry in Uttar Pradesh. People threw powered colours and sprayed coloured water on each other while celebrating 'Lathmar Holi' in Uttar Pradesh. As per traditions, women beat men with sticks while celebrating the festival. Devotees thronged Mathura city, birthplace of Hindu Lord Krishna, to revel in celebrations. Lord Krishna is believed to have come to the earth to destroy an evil king called Kansa, who was his maternal uncle, and ruled some parts of northern India. Holi will be celebrated on March 06 however people of Mathura city mark the festival for eight days. In a special programme, performers were dressed as Lord Krishna and consort Radha. Meanwhile, spirits were high in holy city of Varanasi too as devotees celebrated Holi with colours, sweets and bhang (cannabis). Ayodhya, March 01 (ANI): The popular festival of colours 'Holi' commenced with auspicious prayers in the temple city of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. As per Hindu traditions, people in Ayodhya celebrate the annual festival in the month of 'Phalgun' (usually February-March) to propagate social amity. At the Hanuman Garhi temple, priests offered special prayers to Lord Hanuman and took out procession on streets and visited various temples in the neighbourhood. Enroute, people in the procession spray colours and exchange greetings with others. As per Hindu almanac, 'Holi' falls on March 06 this year. Mar 1, 2015

First India Nepal friendship motor rally flagged off

Bhubaneswar, Feb 28 (ANI): The first India-Nepal friendship motor rally was flagged off from Bhubaneswar city on Saturday. The rally, which will cover 3060 kilometres across India and Nepal over a period of 10 days, was flagged off by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. As many as 30 teams are participating in the event set to conclude in New Delhi on March 08. Rally Director, Praveen Bhanjdeo, said that the rally sought to forge a religious connect with the neighbouring country of Nepal. Both Puri in India and Pashupati in Nepal hold immense religious importance. Puri is regarded as the holy land of lord Jagannath while Pashupati houses the Pashupathinath Temple, a very popular pilgrimage site. The rally will trace the journey of Lord Buddha, passing through cities of Bodh Gaya, Rajgir, Nalanda, Patna in India and Lumbini- the birth place of Buddha – in Nepal. Feb 28, 2015
