Erbil, Nov 21 (ANI): Indian spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar met Prime Minister of semi-autonomous Kurdistan region of Iraq, Nechirvan Barzani, and discussed plans to psychologically rehabilitate war-ravaged people. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar plans to teach yoga and meditation to a group of war-weary Iraqis, whom he hopes will extend their new-found inner peace to their nation. The Islamic State (IS) has caused international alarm by capturing large expanses of Iraq and Syria, declaring an Islamic "caliphate" that extends across the border between the two. New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): Former Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri has said that New Delhi and Islamabad were very close to framework an agreement on the Kashmir issue during previous Congress-led regime in 2008. Kasuri is in Delhi to participate in Track-II dialogue that also involves Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar. Kasuri said that 80-90 percent of the issue was resolved through back channel during Manmohan Singh government. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar calls for peace in Iraq

Erbil, Nov 21 (ANI): Addressing a peace conference in Erbil city, Indian spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar called for peace in Iraq and said communication needs to be established with those who are misguided in the name of religion. Ravi Shankar on Wednesday stepped up relief work for Yazidi refugees trapped in Erbil town of northern Iraq, following an insurgency by Islamic State militants. The International Association for Human Values (IAHV), a sister concern of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's 'Art of Living,' has teamed up with local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Iraq for relief operations. Ravi Shankar said those misguided by religion need to be educated. Ravi Shankar said India, too, had been under attack by aggressors but its faith in non-violence has remained intact. Indian fishermen released from Sri Lanka return home, thank PM Modi

New Delhi/ Chennai, Nov 21 (ANI): The five Indian fishermen, who were on death row for charges of alleged drug trafficking, thanked the Modi government as they reached Chennai airport after Sri Lankan government freed them. The fishermen returned to Delhi airport on Thursday and thereafter left for Tamil Nadu. Sri Lanka on Wednesday had released the fishermen who were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in 2011 on charges of smuggling drugs and on October 30, the Colombo High Court held them guilty of drug trafficking. The released fishermen - P Emerson, P Augustus, R Wilson, K Prasad and J Langlet - hail from Rameswaram coast of Tamil Nadu. R Wilson, another released fishermen, expressed gratitude towards the BJP government for securing their release and also thanked the Sri Lankan President for pardoning them. Nov 21, 2014

45th International Film Festival of India kicks-off in Goa

Goa, Nov 20 (ANI): Movie buffs would get a taste of Indian as well as foreign films as 11-day International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is going to kick-off from Thursday (November 20) in Goa. The event will be inaugurated at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee stadium in Bambolim and offer a wide variety of 110 films and 28 Oscar entries. The chief guest of the 45th edition of IFFI will be Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan. The event will also pay tribute to British filmmaker Richard Attenborough, who died in August this year. Special homage will also be paid to Bollywood actors including Zohra Sehgal, Suchitra Sen and Farooq Sheikh. Northeast region will be a special focus and nine northeast films will be showcased at the festival.
