Patna, Feb 22 (ANI): Nitish Kumar after taking oath as chief minister of Bihar, addressed mediapersons in Patna and expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries who attended his swearing-in ceremony. Kumar thanked Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, UP CM Akhilesh Yadav and Assam CM Tarun Gogoi among others. He also said that Congress President Sonia Gandhi could not attend the event but sent a letter congratulating him. Kumar also said that he took over as the chief minister of the state as the people were not happy with his decision to resign from the post. He also talked about his vision for development of Bihar. Palwal, Feb 20 (ANI): Anti-Graft Crusader Anna Hazare on Friday flagged off the 'padayatra' against the land acquisition ordinance from the Gandhi Ashram in Palwal, Haryana. Anna had yesterday lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for removing the provisions which provided taking the farmers' consent before acquiring their land. The social activist will stage a protest in the national capital on February 24 against the Land Acquisition Bill and request the government to withdraw the ordinance. New Delhi, Feb 19 (ANI): Supreme Head of the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church, Ignatius Aphrem-II urged nations to unite against militancy saying that its victims were not members of a particular religion. Speaking with mediapersons in New Delhi, Ignatius Aphrem-II expressed his concerns over brutal killings by the militants of Islamic State and repeated attacks on churches in India’s national capital. The insurgent group has expanded its reach around the Arab world. The group, on February 15 released a video showing the beheading of 21 Egyptian Christians. Ignatius Aphrem-II, who is on an 11-day visit to India, arrived in Kerala on February 7. During his visit he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi and discussed the series of attacks on churches. Reactions come in over India's nuclear deal with Sri Lanka

New Delhi/ Chennai, Feb 17 (ANI): Congress party took a dig at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party after the Narendra Modi-led government signed a nuclear energy agreement with Sri Lanka. This deal is India's first breakthrough with the new government of the tiny Indian Ocean island where China has been building ports and highways in a diplomatic push in recent years. Under the deal, India will help Sri Lanka build its nuclear energy infrastructure, including training of personnel, the Indian foreign ministry said. Later, India could also sell light small-scale nuclear reactors to Sri Lanka which wants to establish 600 MW of nuclear capacity by 2030, a Sri Lankan official and an Indian analyst said earlier. New Delhi, Feb 16 (ANI): Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena on Monday reached Raj Ghat and laid wreath at the Mahatma Gandhi memorial. Mumbai, Feb 15 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the legal professionals strengthened country's freedom movement, while addressing concluding Sesquicentennial Function of the Advocates Association of Western India (AAWI) in Mumbai city. Having a legacy of 150 years, said Modi, was of paramount importance and that people associated with AAWI could take pride in the fact that it produced lawyers like father of nation, Mahatma Gandhi and freedom fighter Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Modi also inaugurated a Permanent Judicial Museum at Bombay High Court set up as part of sesquicentennial celebrations. He also emphasised upon the need to strengthen people's faith in the institution of judiciary. Taking pride in his government doing away with 1700 existing laws, he said drafts for new laws should be available online to bar association.
