MEA announces series of events for 2015 Pravasi Bhartiya Divas Part - 2

Gandhinagar, Jan 07 (ANI): MEA Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin on Wednesday announced the series of events to take place at the 2015 Pravasi Bhartiya Divas, the youth part of which commenced today amidst tight security in Gandhinagar. The event marks the centenary of the return to India of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa. He also said that among other events a stamp and coin will be inaugurated at the function featuring images of Mahatma Gandhi as a bachelor and as Father of the Nation. Akbaruddin also informed that Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj met with her South African counterpart Maite Nkoana-Mashabane today and discussed wide range of issues. The three day event is the world's largest annual gathering of people of Indian origin aimed at enhancing networking and reinforcing commercial linkages. Jan 7, 2015

SAD clarifies Punjab CM's demand on terrorists' release, commemoration of death anniversary of Indir

New Delhi, Jan 07 (ANI): President of SAD unit in Delhi and President of DSGMC, Manjit Singh GK on Wednesday clarified the demand made by Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal regarding the release of 13 terrorists jailed in connection with Khalistan activities. Manjit Singh GK said that the terrorists have completed even more than 10 years beyond their jail sentence which is why they have all the right to be released. He added that it was a case of human rights and the legal procedure shall be followed. He further clarified the misconception regarding the commemoration of death anniversary of Indira Gandhi's assassins by Akal Takht saying that it was a custom at gurudwara to honour anybody who keeps a 'path'. New Delhi, Jan 07 (ANI): Sikh religious organization Akal Takht commemorated the death anniversary of Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's assassins. NCP leader Majid Memon said that it is up to the organizations whom to pay homage but it is not an issue the country should be concerned about. New Delhi, Jan 5 (ANI): Leaders of various political parties on Monday slammed the Hindu Mahasabha over its demand of changing the image of currency notes. In a fresh move, the Hindu Mahasabha has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding Mahatama Gandhi's photo be replaced on Indian currency notes with that of Veer Shivaji, Maharana Pratap along with image of B R Ambedkar who gave the country the Constitution post-Independence. Petition filed in India against US firm for using Mahatma Gandhi's image on beer cans

Hyderabad/ New Delhi, Jan 04 (ANI): A lawyer in Hyderabad city of Andhra Pradesh filed a petition on Sunday against a US liquor company for using iconic freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi's picture on beer cans. New England Brewing Company came out with beer cans named 'Gandhi-Bot' claiming that their intention was to pay homage to Gandhi. He also said that using Gandhi's image on the beer cans is punishable under Indian laws. Matt Westfall, head brewer and partner at the New England Brewing Company, has apologised on behalf of the company through mail. Meanwhile, CPI leader D Raja said the American company should understand the sentiments of people. New Delhi, Jan 04 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Sunday after the Rajasthan government cancelled the mutation of a part of land purchased by Congress President Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra's company Skylight Hospitality Private Limited in Bikaner district, on the grounds that it was bought from fake buyers. BJP leader Sambit Patra said that law is doing its work and the guilty will be punished. Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that the cancellation is a political vendetta and that the government is just trying to bother Robert Vadra.
