Kochi, Sep 07 (ANI): People in Kerala revelled in festive spirit to celebrate the harvest festival of 'Onam' on Sunday. Devotees visited temples, made flower carpets and decorated elephants to celebrate the festival in Kochi. The festival is based on the story of 'King Mahabali' who was so attached to his kingdom that it is believed that he comes annually to see if his people are living happily. It is in honour of King Mahabali, affectionately called Onathappan, that Onam is celebrated. A tourist from UK, Rebecca said she felt amazing to be a part of the celebrations. The 10-day long harvest festival celebrations begin every year with Aathachamayam (The Royal Parade on Aatham Day) in Thripunithara city.
