Speculations over alliance in Maharashtra remain intact

Mumbai/ New Delhi/ Kolkata, Oct 30 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday said it was not concerned about any party's support to them while forming government in Maharashtra as its former ally warns it to form alliance with any other party. In its editorial mouthpiece, 'Saamna', Shiv Sena warned BJP of forming government in Maharashtra with the support of NCP. BJP Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said they were fine with any party's support. The BJP announced name of Devendra Fadnavis as chief minister on Tuesday and will stake claim to form the government on Friday. However, NCP Leader Majid Memon rubbished any significance of the editorial. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister-designate Fadnavis, saying the state can expect good days, or 'acche din', cautioning them of accepting NCP's support. BJP leader visits Kolkata to assess damage to his partymen in clashes with TMC

Kolkata/Birbhum, Oct 30 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi visited West Bengal on Thursday to assess the killing of party workers allegedly by members of the regional Trinamool Congress (TMC) and called the state government a party of militants, mafias and criminals. Naqvi said that TMC should use their efforts in helping the people there, instead of attacking them. Three persons were killed and many severely injured in a clash between the TMC and BJP supporters at Makra village in Birbhum district in West Bengal. Several houses were also burnt down. Hindu devotees in Gorakhpur throng markets to prepare for 'Chhath'

Gorakhpur, Oct 28 (ANI): Thousands of Hindu devotees in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh thronged markets to buy the traditional items required to celebrate the Sun God festival, 'Chhath'. A devotee Bimla Mishra said that the festival is very important and is considered extremely auspicious. The Chhath, celebrated on the sixth and seventh day after Diwali, is significant for married women who observe a three-day fast and standing in waist-deep river water, present religious offerings to the Sun God. According to tradition, on the first day, devotees, mostly women, take a dip in the river and begin fasting. Another devotee, Manju Tripathi, said that devotees fast for the fulfillment of their wishes. On the second day, rituals are performed at home. Chhath is considered an extremely auspicious festival by the people of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The festival has also gained popularity in metropolitan cities like Kolkata, Pune and Mumbai, too, where there are large numbers of migrants from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Oct 28, 2014
