SAARC energy ministers meet in New Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 17 (ANI): The fifth meeting of the energy ministers of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was held in New Delhi on Friday, with an aim to strengthen energy cooperation among the member countries. Energy ministers and senior officials from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka were part of the meeting. India's Power and Coal Minister, Piyush Goyal, said that the similarities between the socio-economic conditions would help the SAARC nations to stay together and become a regional economic power house. The agenda of the meeting included review of status of implementation of decisions of the Fourth Meeting of SAARC Energy Ministers held in Dhaka on 15 September 2011. Oct 17, 2014

Pranab Mukherjee signs 19 pacts in Finland

Helsinki, Oct 16 (ANI): Indian President Pranab Mukherjee met his Finland counterpart Sauli Niinisto at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki amid a grand ceremonial reception and signed 19 pacts to step up cooperation in energy, fishing and education, besides exploring tie-ups in science and technology. This is the first visit by an Indian president in 26 years to the key Nordic nation. India and Finland signed 19 pacts on government-to-government, business-to-business as well as institution-to-institution level in the field of energy, education, fishing and science and technology during Mukherjee's visit to Finland.
