India hopes for early resolution of legal tussle of GMR group with Maldivian government

New Delhi, Jan 1 (ANI): The Ministry of External Affairs has hoped for a resolution of issues between infrastructure firm, GMR and Maldivian government, with both at loggerheads over the Male airport issue. The new President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom would visit India from January 01 to 04. President Gayoom would be accompanied by a high level delegation. GMR, a subsidiary of Bangalore-based GMR Infrastructure limited has been given seven days to leave the Indian Ocean island chain. In 2012, Maldives cancelled its biggest foreign investment project, a $511 million deal with Indian firm GMR Group to develop its international airport, raising questions over the future of foreign investment in the islands renowned for luxury resorts. MEA spokesperson, Syed Akbaruddin said that it was important for both GMR and the government of Maldives to resolve their issues. Kohima, Dec 19 (ANI): The 14th edition of the hornbill festival had a colorful start at Kisama Naga heritage village near the capital of Nagaland. During the festival 16 tribes of Nagaland presented their food, folk dances, music and other arts. The annual festival is celebrated to pay tribute to the hornbill, the most revered bird of the Nagas. It also encourages inter-tribal interaction and promotes the cultural heritage of Nagaland. The aim of this year's festival was also to promote entrepreneurship and attract investment to the state. Domestic and foreign tourists were thrilled to get a feel of the rich Naga culture. As a part of the festival, the Miss Nagaland contest was also held which witnessed the participation of 18 contestants representing every district of the state. Anand Sharma wants multinationals to follow TESCO's lead

New Delhi, Dec 19 (ANI): Trade minister Anand Sharma on Thursday said that he expects other multinational organizations to follow TESCO when it comes to investing in India. The UK-based retail major TESCO will get into a strategic alliance with Tata's Trent to open multi-brand retailing in the country. For the project, they have invested $110 million. Taking a note of different strategies that companies may adopt, Sharma said that it is the prerogative of the companies to initiate and firing up their business plans. When raised a query on what will be the Cabinet's stand on the FDI in the pharma sector, Sharma said that the government's stand is firm on the issue.
