Explosion near NIA Office in Kolkata

Kolkata, Nov 11 (ANI): A small explosion occurred near the office of National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Kolkata, police and interior office officials said. An officer at the police control room in Kolkata said the cause of the blast at the NIA office had not yet been established. Interior ministry official said preliminary information was that nobody had been injured. The NIA is currently investigating an earlier explosion in Burdwan, near Kolkata in October, that the agency believes was a botched plot by Bangladeshi Islamist militants to kill Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. A Kolkata court on Sunday gave the NIA custody of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) commander Sajid, a Bangladeshi national who West Bengal police arrested on Saturday in connection with the blast. Parents protest after Class 1 student allegedly molested in Kolkata

Kolkata, Nov 10 (ANI): Parents staged a protest in Kolkata on Monday (November 10) after a girl of class 1 was allegedly sexually abused inside the school premises. Hundreds of parents gathered outside the school to seek immediate action against the school authorities. Parents alleged the girl was molested inside the school campus but the authorities have not spoken anything yet. A mother, Ishmita Roy, demanded that a complaint be filed on this issue immediately. Theatre festival concludes with fanfare in Bhubaneshwar

Bhubaneswar, Nov 7 (ANI): Theatre artists from across the country converged in Odisha to take part in a five-day national theatre festival. The festival, Purva Ranga, or 'Colours of the East', which is concluding today, attracted many spectators to Bhubaneswar city. President of Odisha Natya Sangh, Dhira Mallik, said that they had organised this festival with an aim to portray artists on national level. The festival was organised by Odisha Sangeet Natak Academy under the aegis of state tourism and culture department in collaboration with Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Kolkata. A director of Amateur Theatre Group, Mushtaq Kak, said that youth taking up theatre should come with a clean mindset as they are only keen to join silver screen actors rather than being natural artists. Former TMC leader Asif Khan hospitalized after his arrest in alleged cheating case

Kolkata, Nov 07 (ANI): Former Trinamool Congress leader Asif Khan was admitted to a state run hospital in Kolkata after he was arrested for his alleged involvement in a cheating case. Khan complained of chest pain and other health related problems following which he was admitted to NRS hospital. His lawyer said that the case was falsely forged on him and is a part of political vengeance. Khan, who had lashed out at a section of the party leadership and accused them of being involved in the Saradha chit fund scam, was arrested from his residence at Tiljala in the eastern part of the city in connection with a cheating case in a land deal in the Rajarhat-New Town area. He was to be produced before the court on Friday but the same can take place only after he is released from the hospital. Nov 7, 2014
