Shi ite Muslims protest against curfew in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 4 (ANI): Shi'ite Muslims protested against the state government in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday (November 04) for imposing curfew on Ashoura, which commemorates the slaying of Prophet Muhammad's grandson Hussein in Karbala in 680 AD. Several mourners came out at historic Lal Chowk in Srinagar city and protested against the curfew by beating chests and shouting slogans. They were later detained by the police. The Jammu and Kashmir government had imposed curfew in several parts of the valley to prevent Ashoura processions. Security personnel manned the streets in Srinagar to prevent any untoward incident. Srinagar, Oct 30 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leader Yasin Malik's supporters protested against their leader's arrest on Thursday. Malik was reportedly leading a campaign to boycott assembly elections scheduled to be held in Jammu and Kashmir next month, for which he was taken into preventive custody today.The supporters even pelted stones at the police in the city's Maisuma area, after which the police resorted to firing of tear gas shells and a baton charge to disperse the mob.Malik was previously arrested earlier this month, ahead of Eid prayers at Abi Guzar near Lal Chowk while he was preparing to hold an anti-election protest. All the shops in the downtown area commercial hub of Lal Chowk, where the famed clock tower stands in the middle of putrid water, which used to be hustling and bustling with business activities, now bears a deserted look as the markets have been completely damaged. Narcotics officials seize heroin worth over 0.6 billion in Delhi

New Delhi, Sep 14 (ANI): New Delhi's Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized a large cache of fine quality heroin worth over Rupees 0.6 billion and arrested an Afghan national along with two Indians for allegedly smuggling the drugs. The Afghan national along with two Indians have been arrested for allegedly smuggling in 31 kilograms of fine quality heroin concealed in raisin boxes which was to be sold in a famous dry fruits market in Delhi. Officials said a tip-off led sleuths of the Delhi zone of the NCB to a cold storage in Kundli in Haryana's Sonepat district. Officials said the raisins consignment, imported from Afghanistan, was destined to be delivered in the famous 'Khari Baoli' dry fruits market in Chandni Chowk area of New Delhi and the high quality heroin, sourced from the same country, was being sent under cover.
