Devotees in Vadodara prepare gigantic 'Modak' sweet to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi

Vadodara, Sep 01 (ANI): A group of devotees in Gujarat prepared a gigantic dumpling shaped sweet, Modak, on the occasion of the Hindu festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. Ganesh Chaturthi is a 10-day popular celebration during which it is believed that Lord Ganesha bestows his presence on earth for all his devotees. The group had initiated to create the lord's favourite sweet weighing 800 kilograms for the people of Vadodora city. The sweet was made into five layers each consisting of a different ingredient. The organiser of the sweet making event, Ankur said that a team of seven to eight people prepared the biggest sweet in around 36 hours. Devotees buy decorated and colourful idols of Lord Ganesha and establish them in their homes for 10 days and revel in religious pageantry. Sep 1, 2014

Women Activists condemn TMC MLA Deepak Haldar's rape remark

New Delhi, Aug 28 (ANI): Women activists, on Thursday, condemned the controversial rape remark by TMC MLA Deepak Haldar. Haldar had said in his speech on Wednesday that as long as Earth is there, rapes will continue to happen. Human Rights Activist Teesta Setalvad said that such statements encourage criminals which should not happen. South 24 Parganas, Aug 28 (ANI): Provoking a howl of protests in Bengal, a Trinamool Congress MLA on Thursday said rapes will continue to occur as long as the Earth exists. "There was rape earlier, there is rape today. As long as the Earth exists, there will be rape," said the Trinamool legislator Deepak Haldar. Haldar had made the comments at a public meeting in his constituency on Wednesday evening. Later, he said his intent was to raise awareness.
