Kathak danseuse Sitara Devi passes away after prolonged illness

Mumbai, Nov 25 (ANI): Eminent Kathak danseuse Sitara Devi died early Tuesday following prolonged illness. She was 94. Sitara Devi was on ventilator and her condition was serious while she was admitted to the Jaslok Hospital, said her son-in-law. Sitara Devi became a Kathak legend and is known as a pioneering force in bringing the genre to Bollywood. She is the recipient of prestigious awards like Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Padma Shri and Kalidas Samman. Sitara Devi was born in the family of Brahmin 'kathakar' Sukhdev Maharaj in Kolkata in 1920. When she turned 11, the family moved to Mumbai, where she impressed Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore with a three-hour solo recital. The funeral of eminent Kathak legend will take place Thursday morning. She is survived by a son and a daughter. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled on the loss. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee launches fresh salvo on PM Modi questioning funds for lavish poll cam

Kolkata, Nov 25 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a fresh attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi questioning the funds being spent on lavish poll campaigns. Earlier, Banerjee had slammed ruling BJP for causing disturbance across the state and carrying out political vendetta against her party. She said that it is her Trinamool Congress (TMC) government who has busted the Saradha scam which had been transpiring since many years under previous government. Alleging the Prime Minister Modi for garnering publicity by clicking selfies, she said on the contrary of attracting such fake publicities, her government is popular because her party works for people and not for publicity. Kunal Ghosh says Mamata Banerjee biggest beneficiary in Saradha

Kolkata, Nov 25 (ANI): Suspended TMC MP Kunal Ghosh who has been arrested in the Saradha scam case accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of being the biggest beneficiary in the scam. Ghosh, before being produced before the Sessions Court on Monday, said that Mamata is a coward and added that she should be made to sit before him and questioned with regard to the Saradha scam. Ghosh is an accused in the multi-crore Saradha scam case and was arrested in November 2013 by Bidhannagar Police. Jaitley had slammed Banerjee over her comment that the Burdwan blast was stage managed by the Centre and had said that police and intelligence agencies have nothing to prove that it was stage managed and alleged that the state CM chose to not take action against culprits. Derek O'Brien said that whole episode was a part of larger BJP master game plan as PM used this narrative throughout his rallies.
