Gas pricing: Congress says court will look into matter pertaining to validation of probe against Rel

Bangalore/ New Delhi, Aug 10 (ANI): The anti-graft wing of the Delhi government has filed an affidavit in the high court saying it has jurisdiction to lodge a report against Reliance Industries and former petroleum minister M Veerappa Moily, in the gas pricing issue. Moily said that the matter is in the court and it would be taken care of by the court. Congress and NCP also said that the High Court will have final say in the matter. Meanwhile, AAP accused the former UPA government and said that the agency was right in filing affidavit in the case. The matter pertains to an approval by the cabinet of the previous government in January to double the price of gas extracted by Reliance from $4.2 per unit. Aug 10, 2014

FDI in railways and defence draws mixed reactions

New Delhi, Aug 07 (ANI): Expert and political leaders on Thursday said that central government's move to allow foreign direct investment (FDI) in railways and defence sectors would not give private sector much control, adding it was not fit for citizens of the country. The cabinet approved a plan to raise the amount of FDI allowed in its defence and railways industries, part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to attract more foreign cash and revive the economy. The government is to increase the foreign investment limit in the defence industry to 49 percent from 26 percent. Defence expert, Commodore (retired) Uday Bhaskar, said with 49 percent, bigger companies won't get much control. Meanwhile, BSP chief Mayawati, said the BJP should hold a discussion on the matter. New Delhi, August 4 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 242.32 points up to stand at 25,723.16. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 81.05 points up to stand at 7,683.65. Apollo Tyres and Crompton Greav were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 6.10% and 5.89% along with HPCL and CESC with an increase of 5.16% and 5.16% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include Syndicate Bank and Financial Tech with a decrease of 7.05% and 4.99% along with Britannia Industries and Bhushan Steel with a decrease of 3.57% and 3.49% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 228.63 points at 15,558.20 while the banking sector is up 120.99 points at 17,449.97 and the reality sector is up 19.82 points at 1,893.40.
