Devout Hindus thronged river bank in northern Allahabad city to perform rituals at the confluence of three holy rivers-- Ganges, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati. As per tradition, holy dip in River Ganges is described as auspicious on full moon day as it leads to salvation. Legends say Ganges has flown from the heaven to the earth to wash away the worldly sins of mankind. Another devotee, Sushma, said earthen oil lamps are floated in the river and prayers are offered to the almighty. People in Hapur town also celebrated the full moon day. Meanwhile, elaborate security arrangements were made to avoid any mishap.
