Agriculture fair begins in Tamil Nadu

Coimbatore, Jan 08 (ANI): A three-day-long agriculture fair showcasing latest farming techniques has begun in state agricultural university of Tamil Nadu. There are more than 300 stalls at the fair, displaying new crop varieties and latest innovations by agricultural research centers from across the four southern India states. The main attraction of the fair is a variety of guava fruit called the Thailand guava -- which weighs up to 60 grams and has less seeds -- developed by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. The exhibition is aimed at introducing farmers to technologies like high density planting, precision farming, green house cultivation, farm mechanism, use of solar energy and integrated farm management for increased crop productivity. NDMC to distribute LED bulbs to its employees on Holi

New Delhi, Jan 08 (ANI): The New Delhi Municipal Council which faced criticism for spending over Rs.90 lakh to give away sweets to its employees on Holi last year has decided to distribute LED bulbs this year keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for conservation of energy. NDMC chairperson Jalaj Shrivastava said that the council is also planning to halve the domestic energy consumption by the next financial year. Olympic medal winner Sushil Kumar and mountaineer Santosh Yadav will be the ambassadors in promoting the use of LED bulbs in the NDMC area. Jan 8, 2015

PM Narendra Modi launches National Programme for LED bulb distribution

New Delhi, Jan 05 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday described the LED bulb as a 'Prakash Path - way to light' as he launched a scheme for LED bulb distribution under the domestic efficient lighting programme in Delhi and a national programme for LED-based home and street lighting. Prime Minister Modi also symbolically replaced one bulb in South Block, with an LED bulb. Replacement of all bulbs in South Block with LED bulbs will enable savings of 7,000 units of energy each month.
