Censor Board row: Issue being politicised, says Anupam Kher

Mumbai, Jan 18 (ANI): As nine more members of the Censor Board resigned protesting against alleged interference by the government, former censor board chairman and veteran Actor Anupam Kher said that the allegations levelled by former censor board members against the government were not correct and added that the issue was being politicised. I and B Minister Arun Jaitley firmly rejected the charges, saying the "NDA government maintains an arm's length distance" from the functioning of the panel. "The UPA Government had politicised the Censor Board," Jaitley said in an article titled 'Rebels without a cause' posted on Facebook. Censor Board Chief Leela Samson stepped down from her post on Friday, amid controversy surrounding the clearance of controversial film "Messenger of God" featuring Dera Saccha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and citing interference, coercion and corruption of panel members. Seven Maoist sympathisers surrender in Chhattisgarh

Bijapur, Jan 17 (ANI): Seven Maoist sympathisers surrendered before authorities in Chhattisgarh, a senior police official said. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force, Komal Singh said the surrendered Maoist sympathisers would be rehabilitated and provided monetary assistance as per government schemes. Chhattisgarh is a hotbed of Maoist rebels and security forces have mounted major operations against them. The Maoists, also known as Naxals in India, are inspired by the political philosophy of China's late Chairman Mao Zedong.
