Security forces arrest Maoist in Jharkhand

Giridih, Jan 24 (ANI): Security forces arrested a Maoist zonal commander in a major offensive against rebels in Jharkhand, a senior police official said. A country made pistol and live cartridges were seized from his possession. Security forces and police have launched an "all out operation" against People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a breakaway faction of the CPI (Maoist) and the second largest extremist outfit in Jharkhand. Forces are raiding hideouts in Gumla, Simdega, Ranchi and Singhbhum districts of the rebel outfits' hotbed. The arrested rebel chief has been identified as Madan Rai. The Maoists, also known as Naxals in India, are inspired by the political philosophy of China's late Chairman Mao Zedong. Politicos react as Shanta Kumar claims UPA's Food Act more about 'vote security'

New Delhi, Jan 23 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Friday after Former Food Minister and chairman of the high level committee on Restructuring the Food Corporation of India (FCI) Shanta Kumar claimed that the National Food Security Act (NFSA) passed during the UPA regime's tenure was more about "vote security" than "food security". BJP leader Sambit Patra expressed his agreement with Shanta Kumar's view on Food Security Act. BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi said that the UPA without providing adequate food security kept on doing vote bank politics. Mumbai/ New Delhi, Jan 23 (ANI): Former Indian cricket board Chief Sharad Pawar hailed Supreme Court's verdict to debar incumbent board Chairman N Srinivasan, from re-contesting for the post on grounds of conflict of interest after delivering judgment in the spot fixing scam.Earlier, the court had relieved Srinivasan of his duties as president of the BCCI to ensure a fair probe into the scam, in which his son-in-law, Gurunath Meiyappan, was indicted for illegal betting in 2013. The BCCI said it would implement the court's verdict and elect a new president within six weeks. Modi also met ambassador of South Korea Joon-Gyu-Lee. Posco's $12 billion steel plant in eastern Odisha state is the largest single foreign direct investment (FDI) project in India. POSCO officials say the company came to India to have a strong base in an emerging economy as its presence in China was below expectations. According to police, PLFI cadres are engaged in collecting levy from contractors, small industrialists, traders and transporters. A police report in 2014 said PLFI carried out as many incidents as CPI (Maoist).
