Sushma Swaraj arrives in Singapore to strengthen ties

Singapore, Aug 16 (ANI): India’s Foreign Minister, Sushma Swaraj, arrived in Singapore on Saturday (August 16) to flag off year-long celebrations to mark 50 years of relationship between the two countries. During her two-day visit, Swaraj will meet Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and other leaders to hold discussion on various areas like trade and investment, water conservation and infrastructure development. Swaraj will also hold talks with her counterpart K Shanmugam and address meetings with think-tanks and vibrant Indian diaspora. Swaraj's visit is also aimed at exploring the possibility of Singapore's involvement in major Indian infrastructure projects including the smart city project and rejuvenation of other Indian cities. New Delhi, Aug 15 (ANI): Indian political leaders on Friday underlined misses in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's maiden Independence Day speech, while also appreciating his effort to touch upon basic issues the country is facing. Modi, in his speech on the occasion of 68th Independence Day on Friday (August 15), highlighted various topics from digitalization of India to poverty. He urged global investors to make India a manufacturing hub, and pitched for manufacturing in the electronic sector, also calling for foreign investment in manufacturing chemicals, automobiles, agro-business and others. However, Politicos felt he did not mention the core struggles of India, such as inflation and corruption.
