JandK PDP hints at alliance with BJP post state polls

Jammu, Nov 03 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed hinted at alliance with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after polls. The five-phase polls in Jammu and Kashmir will begin November 25 and end on December 20. The results would be announced on December 23. Sayeed said he had worked with BJP leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani in the past. Indian Army starts construction of bridge damaged due to floods in Kashmir

Poonch, Nov 02 (ANI): The Indian army started construction of a major connecting bridge in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir which was damaged during worst floods in the valley in September. During the floods, several key bridges were damaged and some were washed away leaving hundreds of villages disconnected from several areas. Meanwhile, commanding officer, engineer regiment, Poonch, Major Krishna Prasad said the Sher-e-Kashmir bridge was damaged and work was on to construct a new one. The approach road to the bridge was also damaged. Residents hailed the army and said it will facilitate movement of relief material and other goods. Nov 2, 2014

Security forces recover Improvised Explosive Device in Kashmir

Shopian, Oct 31 (ANI): Security forces recovered Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Shopian district of India’s northern state of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday (October 31), weeks ahead of the assembly elections in the state. The IED, weighing about four kilograms, was hidden inside a small gas cylinder. Indian army official, Major Vishal Kumar, said it was apparently planted to target security forces passing through the area. The traffic on the road was stopped briefly till the cylinder was recovered and taken to a safe place. The army official added the IED was later defused through a controlled explosion by the Bomb Disposal Squad. Oct 31, 2014
