PM Modi offers prayers at Varanasi Assi ghat, launches 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Varanasi, Nov 08 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his second day of visit to Varanasi by offering prayers at the ' Assi ghat' of river Ganga, assisted by five priests who supported him in performing the 'Ganga Pujan'. He also swept the ghat to mark the beginning of 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' from his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi. Several laborers joined him as he cleaned the ghat. Later in the day, he is scheduled to visit the Mata Anandamayee Hospital to take first hand stock of the functioning. It Happens: Traditional dance of archery attracts visitors in India

Shimla, Nov 7(ANI): Villagers in India's northern Himachal Pradesh state organised a fair to promote traditional dance of archery, 'Thoda', on Wednesday. The fair, which was held at Raggyan village, over 20 kilometres from Shimla city, aimed at preserving the traditional art. Many young archers were seen performing the art during the fair and urged more and more youth to preserve this heritage. On the beats of traditional drums, people aim at each other with bow and arrow on legs. One of the organisers, Pawan Thakur, said that young generation should now come forward and develop such ancient art. This fair is a blend of religious belief and love for century-old 'Thoda' sport. Candidates file nomination ahead of polls in Jharkhand even as Maoist calls for boycott

Latehar, Nov 04 (ANI): Candidates filed nominations for the first time in Jharkhand even as Maoists called for a boycott of the elections scheduled for later this month. The five-phased state assembly polls in Jharkhand will begin from November 25 and end on December 20. The results would be announced on December 23. A voter Sashi Kumar said that they look forward to better amenities. A candidate of RJD, Ramchandra Singh filed his nomination. Enrolment of over 5,000 workers was also witnessed in the Maoist infested Latehar district. However, a local Yogesh Prasad said that despite being a Maoist affected area, the locals took part in the nominations with great enthusiasm playing drums and performing folk dance.
