Govt hikes petrol price by Rs 3.18 per litre, diesel by Rs 3.09 per litre

New Delhi/Kanpur/Lucknow/Kolkata, Feb 28 (ANI): The government on Saturday hiked the petrol price by Rs. 3.18 per litre and of diesel by Rs. 3.09 per litre. A statement by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has attributed the increase in fuel price to the rise in crude price in the international market and to the depreciation of rupee. Arvind Kejriwal appeals Mohan Bhagwat to 'spare Mother Teresa as she was a noble soul'

New Delhi, Feb 24 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday slammed RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat for his remark on Mother Teresa and asked the organisation to 'spare her' as she was a noble soul. "I worked wid Mother Teresa for a few months at Nirmal Hriday ashram in Kolkata. She was a noble soul. Pl spare her," tweeted Kejriwal. Bhagwat has implied that the sole objective of Mother Teresa's service to the poor was to convert people to Christianity. Bhagwat's comment was made at an NGO function in Rajasthan on Monday. He had said, "Here, the service isn't like Mother Teresa's. Her service would have been good, but it used to have one objective, to see that the person who was being helped, felt obliged to become a Christian." Feb 24, 2015

Mamata Banerjee's aide Shibaji Panja granted bail

New Delhi, Feb 23 (ANI): A Local court in Barrackpore in West Bengal has granted bail to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's close aide and businessman Sibaji Panja, who was arrested on Saturday on charges of financial fraud. The court granted him bail on a personal bond of rupees 50 thousand. Panja was a member of a delegation during West Bengal chief minister's visit to Bangladesh and had been detained by the Emigration Department officials in Kolkata, soon after his arrival from Bangladesh. Mamata Banerjee's aide Shibaji Panja held for alleged financial fraud

West Bengal, Feb 22 (ANI): Entrepreneur Shibaji Panja, who accompanied West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on her Bangladesh visit, was on Sunday arrested and produced in the Barrackpore court for alleged financial fraud. Panja was detained at the immigration counter of the Kolkata airport. According to reports, the Delhi Police had been looking out for him and had issued a notice for the same on February 19. Panja had allegedly taken a loan of Rs 18 crore from Industrial Financial Corporation, after submitting some fake documents. Meanwhile, BJP leader Tathagata Roy questioned Banerjee and demanded an explanation on the company of people she keeps. CPI leader Ritabrata Banerjee also condemned the same calling it 'shameful' for a chief minister to take along a person with accusations on him for a diplomatic visit. Feb 22, 2015
