Foreign extremists launch 'jihad' in Syria

United Nations, April 07: Over 140,000 Syrians have lost their lives and more than 9 million are internally displaced or have fled the country since the conflict between forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad and those opposed to his rule began in March 2011. The fight is grim as the rebels are outnumbered by Islamists and jihadists linked to Al Qaeda. The country is now facing one of the worst civil wars with rise in crimes including torture, hostage-taking, murder and execution. Al Qaeda and the Taliban from Pakistan-Afghan border are now using Syria as a launching pad to carry out strikes against the West. Syria is an attractive region for them since it lies far from the drone strikes. These fighters are skilled in bomb-making, logistics, religious indoctrination and planning. Experts believe that Pakistan is well aware of al Qaeda's strategy in Syria. It is believed that Pakistan is backing al Qaeda fighters in Syria at the behest of Saudi Arabia. During his recent visit to Pakistan, Saudi Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz asked for anti-aircraft and anti-tank rockets for the rebels fighting in Syria. Apr 7, 2014

Nitish Katara Murder Case: Delhi High Court upholds conviction of three convicts

New Delhi, Apr 2 (ANI): In a major development, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday upheld the conviction of three convicts by the trial court in the 12-year-old Nitish Katara murder case. The Delhi High Court, while passing the order, said Nitish Katara's murder was a case of honour killing and there was no need for a re-trial. The High Court said that the trial court had rightfully found three convicts – Vikas, Vishal Yadav and Sukhdev Pehelwan - guilty of kidnapping and murdering Nitish Katara in 2002. According to the prosecution, Vikas and Vishal killed Nitish Katara on the night of February 17, 2002 after abducting him from a marriage party in Ghaziabad. Seeking death penalty for the convicts, the prosecution told the high court that Nitish Katara and Bharti Yadav were in an intense relationship and her family's opposition to their friendship led to the killing of Nitish Katara. Nitish Katara’s mother and prosecution, Neelam Katara said that she is happy as a mother and as a Indian citizen with today’s decision. Apr 2, 2014
